The Witcher renewed by Netflix for a second season

Season 1 of Netflix’s The Witcher is all set to premiere on 20 December 2019 on the platform. However, the streaming giant has already renewed it for a second season a month before its release.

Actors Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan will all return to play Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri respectively for the second outing. Netflix tweeted out the news for their followers:

Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich also tweeted about the news and shared her excitement:

“I’m so thrilled to announce: Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri will be back for more adventures… in Season Two. I could not be more proud of what the amazing cast and crew of The Witcher have accomplished, and can’t wait for the world to dig in and enjoy these stories with us,” she wrote.

Based on the best selling books by Andrzej Sapkowski and a successful video game franchise, The Witcher has a lot of great source material. It has been hinted that the show could run for multiple seasons. The creators also believe that it can be the next go-to fantasy series for audience after Game of Thrones.

It is not uncommon for shows to be renewed for new seasons before the previous one premiers. Prime Video’s The Boys also met with this favourable outcome a week before its first season came out.
