The Serpent on Netflix: Real-life story of Charles Sobhraj

Netflix has released the trailer for its yet another nerve-racking story, ‘The Serpent’. Starring Golden Globe nominee Tahar Rahim in the lead, the web series will start streaming from April 2.

The Serpent is a crime thriller series inspired by the real-life events of the infamous con man, Charles Sobhraj and his girlfriend Marie. Actress Jenna Coleman will be seen in the role of Marie.

The trailer gives a short glimpse of how Charles Sobhraj and his girlfriend pretend to be gem dealers with courier networks across Asia. The con duo keeps on changing identities and countries, by forging fake passports. The trailer also shows how they would befriend their target before killing and robbing them.

The Mauritanian fame actor, Rahim talked about his role as Charles to Express.co.uk:

“It’s a very complicated character to portray, it’s easier to get out of a character, sometimes than to get in. I remember I struggled the two first weeks, it was hard for me to capture him to understand him”.

He added, “When I build a character, I start from inside. And this time – we had been talking back and forth – I came to realise that I should start from outside. And that’s what we’ve done, we talked about him a lot, read a lot of things about him, pictures, videos”.
