Synopsis

The series is based on the 1989–1996 namesake comic book written by Neil Gaiman and published by DC Comics.
Attempts to adapt The Sandman for the film began in 1991 and remained dormant for several years. Goyer presented a film adaptation of the series to Warner Bros. in 2013. However, due to the film’s lengthy production, Warner Bros. turned its focus to television, and Netflix inked the contract.
