The Power of the Dog on Netflix: Release date, cast and teaser

Netflix has released the teaser for the upcoming western drama ‘The Power of the dog’. The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch and is written and directed by Jane Campion. The film will be premiering on December 1, 2021.

When George Burbank (Jesse Plemons) brings home a new wife and son, his brother Phil Burbank (Cumberbatch) makes it a point to be as menacing as he possibly can. Phil is a sadistic, yet charismatic ranch owner, who is not pleased with his brother’s decision.

The teaser starts off with Phil whistling a haunting tune that features prominently. There are shots of George and his wife, Rose Gordon (Kirsten Dunst) with her claiming: “He’s just a man. Only another man,” in order to ease her fears about her brother-in-law. There are also scenes of Phil tormenting his nephew, Peter Gordon (Kodi Smith-Mcphee) and generally turning his life into a living hell.

The cast also includes Keith Carradine, Frances Conroy, Peter Carroll and Adam Beach. It is based on the novel of the same name written by Thomas Savage.

‘The Power of the dog’ began filming in January, 2020, in New Zealand but was faced with a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production was resumed again in June of that year. The film will be screened at film festivals in Venice, Toronto and New York before streaming on Netflix.
