The Office India incites majorly negative reactions from fans

The official Indian adaptation of the famous sit-com, The Office, has met with generally negative reviews by fans. Ever since the show has started streaming on Hotstar, Twitter has been flooded with reactions to the show which deem it to be a huge letdown.

The show was originally created in the UK in 2001 by Ricky Gervais who also played the main character of a clueless general manager. It was well received and remade in the US in 2005 with Steve Carell playing the central character.

The US version went on for nine seasons and developed a cult following during its run. However, when the Indian version of The Office was announced earlier this month, the reactions revealed very low expectations from viewers.

The audience is calling the Indian version a poor show of “Punjabi dad jokes” and a blatant rip off of the original script without putting in much effort. Mukul Chadda, who plays the character earlier portrayed by Gervais and Carell, has also been criticized for overacting and not doing justice to the role.

However, while the show is receiving so much criticism, it has managed to gain some admirers as well.

The Office India stars Mukul Chadda, Gopal Dutt, Gauahar Khan, Sayandeep Sengupta and Samridhi Dewan. It is now streaming on Hotstar. Check out the trailer below:
