‘The Many Saints of Newark’ traces young “Tony” Soprano in action

The newly released ‘The Many Saints Of Newark’ trailer showcases the prequel to HBO’s landmark ‘The Sopranos’ drama series depicting the life of a young Anthony “Tony” Soprano.

Directed by Alan Taylor and written by David Chase and Lawrence Konner, the upcoming American crime drama film has a plethora of stars, with late James Gandolfini’s son Michael playing the role of a young “Tony” Soprano. Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga appears as the mother (Livia Soprano) and Alessandro Nivola in the influential part of uncle Dickie Moltisanti.

Set in the backdrop of the 1967 race riots in Newark, New Jersey, the story traces the school life of Tony Soprano “as he grows up in one of the most tumultuous eras in Newark’s history, becoming a man just as rival gangsters begin to rise up and challenge the all-powerful DiMeo crime family’s hold over the increasingly race-torn city.”

As per the official synopsis, the future mob boss Anthony Soprano is “caught up in the changing times is the uncle he idolizes, Dickie Moltisanti, who struggles to manage both his professional and personal responsibilities – and whose influence over his impressionable nephew will help make the teenager into the all-powerful mob boss we’ll later come to know.”

The trailer stays true to its Soprano form as violence and racial tension showcase the 1960s scenario of riots, bloodshed, and power struggles.

‘The Many Saints of Newark’ will hit US theatres on 1 October and will be available to stream on HBO Max for 31 days after its theatrical release.
