The Joys and Sorrows of Young Yuguo is an upcoming documentary film that follows the journey of young Yin Yuguo, whose love for East European romantic poetry leads him to Romania’s Carpathian Mountains.

Synopsis

“In this moving documentary, teen Yuguo goes on the adventure of a lifetime as he leaves China to pursue his passion for Romanian literature and culture.”

Yuguo quickly made a name for himself in Romania, but sadly, he died in an accident after tragically falling from a train that had stopped in the snow.

Trailer

The trailer features a young man introducing himself as Yin Yuguo and describing his interest in East European literature, particularly romantic poems, as well as his desire to visit Romania because it is the country of literature in his heart.

In search of a sense of belonging, he travels to Bacau, a Romanian town at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains.

In a matter of months, he learns Mihai Eminescu by heart, becomes nearly fluent in Romanian, and attends public celebrations draped in the Romanian flag, becoming well-known throughout the country.

Yuguo’s enthusiasm opens people’s hearts to the beauty of the world around them and the culture they had almost forgotten as they see themselves through Yuguo’s eyes.
