Indian-American film ‘The Illegal’ is set to stream on Amazon Prime Video from 23 March. The film will star Suraj Sharma, known for his role in ‘Life of Pi’.
‘The Illegal’ follows Hassan (Suraj Sharma) trying to pursue filmmaking, against all odds and discouragements. He talks about filmmaking in the trailer saying: “It’s the only medium where I feel like I can express myself.”
It is written and directed by Danish Renzu, popular for ‘Half Widow’. Renzu stated about the immigrant drama: “This film is very close to my heart, as much as filming it was exciting.”
‘The Illegal’ was felicitated at various prestigious film festivals. The various awards that it won include Mumbai International Film Festival (Special Award for Discovering India), Vancouver South Asian Film Festival (Best Feature Critics Choice), Austin Film Festival, DC South Asian Film Festival (Best Film Jury Mention).
About the awards and reception of ‘The Illegal’, Renzu stated: “While the film was received well at a number of film festivals, I am still nervous about the audience’s reaction to it.”
