Surrounded by brilliant voices of academic and culturalleaders, gifted hairdressers, and extraordinary sisters, the series presents a gorgeous collage of resilience, style and purpose.”
Michaela Angela Davis collaborated with Mariah Carey for her memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey” which was released in 2020.
The docuseries highlights every aspect of a black woman’s hair, from the artistry that goes into creating such detailed and exquisite hairdos to the history that influenced their style.
Conversations and personal stories about the hair of six influential black women examine the relationship of these women’s hair with culture and humanity, as well as how it has frequently been suppressed over the years.
The series’ core message of celebrating identity and the role hair plays for black women is laid out in the second half of the trailer.
