The Girl on the Train on Netflix: Parineeti Chopra’s bold thriller

Netflix India has unveiled the official trailer for its upcoming thriller titled, ‘The Girl on the Train’. The film will feature Parineeti Chopra, Aditi Rao Hydari, Kirti Kulhari, Avinash Tiwary, and Tota Roy Choudhury. It will premiere on February 26.

‘The Girl on the Train’ is based on Paula Hawkins’ 2015 novel that was first adapted into a Hollywood film led by Emily Blunt. It revolves around a widow (played by Chopra in this version) who observes a couple on the train every evening, but soon gets tied up in something sinister.

According to the official logline:

“A bright city, a dull morning and a curious girl on the train. When a voyeuristic divorcee fixates on the lives of a perfect couple from afar, she soon gets embroiled in a murder mystery that unfolds revealing truths about her own life.”

The trailer sees Chopra in an erratic state in the city of London as she becomes a murder suspect after an unfortunate night. Unable to recall the events due to amnesia, she takes it upon herself to uncover the truth.

In a statement, Chopra said:

“The Girl On The Train was an entirely different experience for me as I have never played this kind of a role before. Getting into the character of Meera Kapoor and working closely with Ribhu to bring her to life was an immense learning experience for me. As an actor, I have always wanted to challenge myself with more, and this role gave me the opportunity to do so.

“It will take the audiences on a dark journey trying to piece together the reality of who actually committed the crime and have them guessing the truth!”

‘The Girl on the Train’ has been directed by Ribhu Dasgupta. It was supposed to release in May 2020 but was delayed due to the pandemic. Eventually, it was acquired by Netflix.

Ribhu Dasgupta, in a statement, said:

“The book enticed me tremendously, and I am excited to have the opportunity to bring this version of the story to screens around the world. This film has been a real ride of emotion and passion for me. I am happy that the trailer will drop on Netflix and everyone will see a glimpse of the world we have created.”
