The Baby-Sitters Club: Netflix releases first look for series based on books

Netflix has unveiled the first look for its upcoming series The Baby-Sitters Club based on Ann M. Martin’s best-selling book series of the same name.

The cast includes Sophie Grace, Malia Baker, Momona Tamada, Shay Rudolph and Xochitl Gomez who play the group of five best friends that are starting their own baby-sitting business in Stoneybrook, Connecticut.

The Baby-Sitters Club will be live-action drama-comedy follows the adventures of Kristy Thomas, Mary Anne Spier, Claudia Kishi, Stacey McGill, and Dawn Schafer.

As per Netflix’s official description, the 10-episode series is based on the books that is “a timely story of female friendship, entrepreneurialism and empowerment”.

Martin, the author of The Baby-Sitters Club stated her excitement about the upcoming series in the following statement:

“I’m amazed that there are so many passionate fans of The Baby-Sitters Club after all these years, and I’m honored to continue to hear from readers – now grown, who have become writers, editors, teachers, librarians, filmmakers – who say that they see a reflection of themselves in the characters of Kristy and her friends.

So I’m very excited about the forthcoming series on Netflix, which I hope will inspire a new generation of readers and leaders everywhere.”

Martin will also produce the web series alongside Naia Cucukov and Lucia Aniello’s Paulilu Productions. The books have been previously adapted for a TV series (HBO) in 1990 and later in 1995 for a movie as well.
