Teaser out for season 2 of stand-up comedy hunt Comicstaan

Amazon Prime Video’s popular stand-up comedy hunt Comicstaan has launched a teaser for its upcoming second season.

The teaser shows one of the judges of the show, comedian Biswa Kalyan Rath, cracking a joke at the wrong moment.

The show revolves around contestants undergoing weekly rounds which test their comedic abilities. Each round focuses on different genres of comedy; improv and sketches for example.

The first season enjoyed widespread popularity with the streaming platform claiming that it was the most-watched Amazon Original in India at time. It was later overtaken by Mirzapur.

Rath, Kanan Gill, Kenny Sebastian and Kaneez Surkha have been retained as judges from season 1. Sapan Verma and Naveen Richard will not be returning.

Tanmay Bhat, who also served as judge, was dropped by Amazon amid #MeToo concerns. Bhat, Richard and Verma will be replaced by Zakir Khan, Sumukhi Suresh (host in season 1) and Neeti Palta.

Abish Mathew remains the host and will be joined by Urooj Ashfaq, who replaces Suresh in that capacity.

Comicstaan season 2 begins streaming on 12 July.
