Synopsis

According to the aforementioned law, “A person who is not engaged in an unlawful activity and is any place where he or she has the right to be, has no duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground”.

Brittany Smith had testified in court that a man named Todd Smith was holding her brother, Chris McCallie, in a headlock and threatened to kill both of them. This is when she shot him to out of fear for their lives. The mad had allegedly attacked and raped Smith earlier in her home.

Smith was found guilty of murder and was sentenced to 20 years in jail. She was eventually released after receiving credit for time spent in prison awaiting trial.
