Star Wars: The Bad Batch to premiere on Disney+ in 2021

The Disney streaming giant has announced a new animated series addition to the Star Wars universe titled, Star Wars: The Bad Batch. The original web series will release in 2021 on the platform.

A sequel to the Clone Wars animated series, The Bad Batch is set in a post clone war era and will focus on elite clones who belonged to the first experimental batch. The plot will revolve around their struggle for survival in a hostile environment as they take on mercenary contracts to stay relevant and find new meaning for their lives.

According to the official press release:

Members of Bad Batch — a unique squad of clones who vary genetically from their brothers in the Clone Army — each possess a singular exceptional skill, which makes them extraordinarily effective soldiers and a formidable crew.

Agnes Chu, senior vice president, Content, Disney+ said:

“Giving new and existing fans the final chapter of Star Wars: The Clone Wars has been our honor at Disney+, and we are overjoyed by the global response to this landmark series. While The Clone Wars may have come to its conclusion, our partnership with the groundbreaking storytellers and artists at Lucasfilm Animation is only beginning.  We are thrilled to bring Dave Filoni’s vision to life through the next adventures of the Bad Batch.”

The Bad Batch is being written by Jennifer Corbett (Star Wars Resistance, NCIS). Furthermore, Brad Rau (Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars Resistance) will act as executive producer and supervising director.

The exact release date and voice cast remains unannounced.
