Multiple new ‘Star Wars’ projects announced for Disney+

Disney has announced various new Star Wars projects and developments for Disney+ during its 2020 Investor Day.

With the Skywalker Saga ending in 2019 and The Mandalorian season 2 almost over, millions of fans have been looking forward to upcoming projects and promos.

Let’s catch up with all the latest announcements:

“Rangers of the New Republic” and “Ahsoka” are the two new live-action Star Wars shows announced and both will be spinoffs to “The Mandalorian”. They will be executively produced by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. There is not much detail about “New Republic” but “Ahsoka” is will bring back Rosario Dawson in the role of the Jedi warrior.

Furthermore, a new series of shorts titled, “Star Wars: Visions”, is being worked on and will see some of the best anime directors coming together to present the galaxy in a never seen before manner. It will premiere in 2021.

“Star Wars: The Bad Batch”, the animated spin-off to “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”, got an official sneak-peek. The Disney+ original will follow the bad batch of clones who differ from their Clone brethren and will premiere on the platform in 2021.

The new “Star Wars: Andor” series was also teased with a short ‘sizzle reel’. It will serve as a prequel to “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”. The narrative will revolve around Cassian Andor, five years before the events of the film. Diego Luna will play Andor, the brave officer of the Rebel Alliance and the leader of Rogue One, who died the death of a true hero.

In a colossal announcement, the upcoming “Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi” series will mark the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker aka Darth Vader. Ewan McGregor will be leading the cast. Kathleen Kennedy calls it “the rematch of the century”. The events of this series will be set 10 years after “Revenge of the Sith”.

A forthcoming animated adventure movie, “Star Wars: A Droid Story”, will introduce us to a new character guided by the duo R2-D2 and C-3PO.

“Star Wars: Lando” is going to be a Lando Calrissian “event series”. The project is in its early stages and details including who will play the character are yet to be announced. Lando Calrissian was played by Billy Dee Williams in the original trilogy and The Rise of Skywalker, and by Donald Glover in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Finally, “Star Wars: The Acolyte” is Leslye Headland’s most awaited mystery-thriller series which will be coming to Disney+. It promises to make its audience journey into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.
