Spiral on Lionsgate Play: Mystery reinvents ‘Saw’ franchise

Lionsgate Play released the official trailer for its upcoming mystery movie, Spiral. It is set to release on the streamer on August 6.

On July 20, Lionsgate released Spiral in 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD for home entertainment, with all versions including a variety of intriguing behind-the-scenes featurettes.

The streamer has further announced with an official trailer the arrival of Spiral on its platform as well, starting August 6.

Even after John Kramer (Tobin Bell) died in Saw III, the Jigsaw killer was the focus of the first eight horror films. With a new killer that mimics Jigsaw’s intentions, Spiral begins a new chapter under the franchise.

Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks and his rookie colleague take command of an investigation into brutal killings that are hauntingly evocative of the city’s terrible past, working in the shadow of his father. Zeke finds himself unwittingly caught in a growing mystery and at the centre of the killer’s twisted game.

The horror franchise began in 2004 with Saw, which was created by James Wan and Leigh Whannell. It followed two guys who are about to become victims of the Jigsaw serial killer, who does not murder his victims in the usual sense, but instead creates gadgets that let the victim choose whether or not to die.

The story was written by both, and the script was written by Whannell, while the picture was directed by Wan. Cary Elwes, Danny Glover, Monica Potter, Michael Emerson, Ken Leung, and Tobin Bell co-starred with Whannell in the film.
