‘Special OPS’ franchise gears up for season 1.5

The makers of ‘Special OPS’ have announced a season 1.5. The series will dig into the life of Kay Kay Menon’s character, Himmat Singh. The show will premiere by the end of the year.

The three episode series will focus on the initial years of Himmat Singh as a RAW agent in 2001. Season 1.5 has been shot at multiple international locations and will focus entirely on Menon.

The launch of this season will also inaugurate a new form of storytelling on the Indian entertainment platforms. For the first time, characters, their stories, and seasons will co-exist under the umbrella of a single franchise of the show.

The first season of the series was released in March 2020 on Disney+ Hotstar and featured Kay Kay Menon, Saiyami Kher, Sharad Kelkar, Karan Tacker, Muzammil Ibrahim, Sana Khan, Meher Vij, Divya Dutta, Vinay Pathak, and Vipul Gupta.

The makers of the show were elated to announce this development. Director Neeraj Pandey said:

“The response by the audiences demanded that we embark on the journey. We are starting off with a unique Special Ops 1.5; which is neither a prequel nor a sequel and with this the audience will be witnessing the backstory of the main protagonist Himmat Singh. The series will start with Himmat Singh being assigned another case, but the deflection point is the same parliament attack that started the series of events.”

The lead actor Kay Kay Menon said:

“If you thought that you had seen the best of Himmat Singh, you need to wait for Special Ops 1.5 – it is a terrific redemption story! While it’s not a prequel to Special Ops, there is some interesting history about the character that will unfold. As an actor I strive to do different things and being part of a new universe is very exciting.”
