Space Sweepers on Netflix: New South Korean space opera

Netflix has unveiled the trailer for its upcoming South Korean sci-fi film ‘Space Sweepers’. The movie is being considered as the first Korean space blockbuster.

‘Space Sweepers’ is set in the year 2092, when Earth has become inhabitable and follows the story of a ragtag crew who sell space junk for a living. During one of their space debris searches, they discover a human-like alien who, as they learn later, is a dangerous weapon that could cause mass destruction.

When the crew members realize what the humanoid is capable of and that she is wanted by the UTS Space Guards, they decide to strike a profitable deal.

Given its space action and special effects, ‘Space Sweepers’ is being compared to the likes of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘Star Wars’.

The film stars Song Joong-Ki, Kim Tae-Ri, Jin Sun-Kyu and Yoo Hai-jin and has been directed by Jo Sung-hee.

‘Space Sweepers’ comes out on Netflix on February 5.
