The brand new SonyLIV will be a digital home to one of the best films of last year, 1917. The war drama will be available to stream on the platform from July 17.
Set during the first World War, 1917 chronicles a death defying journey of two young British soldiers through German territory. They are ordered to meet up with a forward regiment about to attack the retreated German frontline and deliver a message to call of the attack as it is a trap.
The mission is personal for one of them as his elder brother is a part of the said regiment. Their path is intense and full of horrors that are incomprehensible.
1917 is a collection of long takes, put together in editing to make it look like a one-shot sequence. With award winning and immersive cinematography along with a gripping narrative, this film takes you on a adrenalin filled ride.
It stars George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman in lead roles. The supporting cast includes Mark Strong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth, and Richard Madden among others. It has been directed by Sam Mendes and Roger Deakins was responsible for the stand out cinematography.
The film received 10 nominations at the 92nd Academy Awards and won Best Cinematography, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Visual Effects. It holds an 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.3 rating on IMDB.
