Social Distance: Netflix’s touching anthology series on Covid-19 pandemic

Netflix has revealed the trailer for an upcoming 8-part anthology series titled, Social Distance. It is set during the initial months of the Covid-19 pandemic and “showcases the power of the human spirit in the face of uncertainty and isolation”.

The series has been shot entirely in quarantine by Jenji Kohan, who is the creator of Orange is the New Black, and showcases different stories of people from different walks of life, dealing with the chaos.

The official description reads:

“Each standalone episode is told through a virtual lens and captures the unique emotional experience of being forced apart by circumstance and having no choice but to communicate remotely and rely on technology to maintain any sense of connection. Through these varied and deeply human stories, SOCIAL DISTANCE aims to provide some much-needed catharsis during a tumultuous time while also capturing a snapshot of this singular moment in history.”

The trailer hints at relatable stories revolving around a couple, a healthcare worker trying to connect with her child on video-call, and hilarious mess-ups during family Zoom meetings.

Social Distance stars Danielle Brooks, Mike Colter, Asante Blackk, and Lachlan Watson among others and will premiere on Netflix on October 15.
