Shadow and Bone on Netflix: Grishaverse comes to life

Netflix recently launched the release date of its upcoming fantasy series Shadow and Bone on April 2021. It is a novel adaptation of Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo.

It stars Jessie Mei Li (Alina Starkov) Ben Barnes (General Kirigan), Archie Renaux (Malyen Oretsev), Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker) and Kit Young (Jesper Fahey).

The trailer is mysterious, which only displays a Morozava’s Stag standing in the midst of a chilly wild with a voice-over: “You and I are going to change the world.” The Netflix adaptation features characters from Grisha and includes new stories for characters in the ‘Six of Crows’.

The series takes place in a war-torn world where Alina Starkov, an orphaned soldier, unleashes a unique power to set her country free.

But with the threat of a strip of darkness which is the Shadow fold, she is torn from everything she knows to train as part of an army of magical soldiers known by the name Grisha. Some dangerous forces plot against her, and it seems that it will take more than magic to survive.

Here are some recent tweets from Barnes:

The series is directed and produced by Leo Toland Kreiger. Eric Heissener, the writer of sci-fi film Arrival, is also the creator and showrunner of this web series. 21 Laps Entertainment is the production company of Shadow and Bone.
