Secrets from 1984 riots come out in ‘Grahan’ on Disney+ Hotstar

Disney+ Hotstar has released the trailer for thriller web series ‘Grahan’. The release date is June 24.

The show is set in 2016, however, the anti-Sikh riots in 1984 after the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi play a pivotal role in the narrative.

The official description by the platform reads:

“It’s 1984 – a tender love story succumbs to the anti-Sikh riots. It’s 2016 – IPS officer Amrita Singh uncovers a secret connecting that past to her present.”

The cast features Pavan Malhotra, Zoya Hussain, Anshuman Pushkar, Wamiqa Gabbi, Teekam Joshi and Sahidur Rahman.

Ranjan Chandel has directed the series, while Shailendra Jha serves as the showrunner. The story is inspired from Satya Vyas’ novel ‘Chaurasi’.

The trailer shows IPS Amrita Singh (Hussain) investigating a case from the past, but finds her own father implicated for a crime. What are the dark secrets harboured by the past?

Talking about Grahan, Malhotra said in a statement:

“An innocent love story, a riveting mystery, a complex web of emotions, but most importantly Grahan is the search for the truth. I have been fortunate enough to be a part of many movies and TV shows in my career, but this one is really special to me because of its strong narrative.

“The question is – what secret is my character Gursevak hiding from the rest of the world? It’s a well-made series and I think viewers will appreciate the story we have tried to weave.”
