‘Searching For Sheela’ on Netflix demystifies Osho’s scandalous ex-secretary

Netflix dropped the trailer for documentary film ‘Searching For Sheela’ set to release on April 22. It examines Indian mystic Osho’s ex-secretary Ma Anand Sheela’s popularity as she returns to India after 34 years.

Shakun Batra, the executive producer of ‘Searching for Sheela’ stated:

“This is not an investigative piece, just an observation of a person who has had a questionable past and has always lived life on her own terms.”

Sheela was convicted for her involvement in the 1984 Rajneeshee bioterror attack, the largest attack of the sort in US history. She was also accused of attempted murder, to which she pleaded innocent.

As the official description of the film reads:

“Searching for Sheela is an intimate look into her journey across India, observing the rebranding of her as a pop-culture icon, with audiences unable to decide if they deem her a “criminal” or remain in awe of her badass secretary days.”

Themes of Sheela’s relationship with Osho were documented in Netflix documentary series ‘Wild Wild Country’. ‘Searching For Sheela’ delves deeper into her life, documenting it from her perspective, and not that of Osho.

The trailer shows Sheela interact with Bollywood director Karan Johar, telling that her own scandals are much more intense than the ones seen in showbiz.
