‘Scam 1992’ makes it to IMDb’s ‘Top Series In The World’

‘Scam 1992’ is a Hindi crime web series that featured on SonyLIV back on 9th October 2020. It has now achieved the singular honour of being the only Indian web series that made it into IMDb’s ‘Top Series In The World’.

Under Hansal Mehta’s directorial, this web series was based on journalist Sucheta Dalal and Debashish Basu’s 1992 book The Fraud: Who Won, Who Lost, Who Got Away.

This crime drama was inspired by a 1992 Indian stock market fraud committed by a number of stockbrokers. Harshad Mehta’s personal narrative and his stratospheric ascent and ultimate collapse are the center of the series.

Harshad Mehta was portrayed by Pratik Gandhi, and Sucheta Dalal, portrayed by Shreya Dhanwanthary, along with Satish Kaushik, Anant Mahadevan, Rajat Kapoor, K K Raina, Lalit Parimoo, Hemant Kher, and Nikhil Dwivedi who play significant parts in the series. 

Originally produced by Sameer Nair of Applause Entertainment, soon after its debut, the web series received widespread acclaim for its cast members’ performances, script, and key technical components. It became the most viewed web series on the streaming platform.

With a rating of 9.8/10 on IMDb, an international online database of information related to films, television programs, and streaming content online, ‘Scam 1992’ has become the only Indian web series to make it into the list which featured over 163 titles from all across the world.

The second instalment of the web series, ‘Scam 2003’, was announced by SonyLiv and Applause Entertainment in March 2021, which will also be helmed by Hansal Mehta.
