Saif Ali Khan leads Amazon Prime Video India’s Dilli

With Jeff Bezos announcing double investment in Indian content this year to Amazon announcing 14 new originals, the digital landscape in India is going through a revolution. One of the major highlights from the announcement, however, was a tease for Saif Ali Khan-led Dilli.

The first look of the series for which there has been no prior information was a welcome surprise. The few snippets show Khan along with Dimple Kapadia, Sunil Grover, Mohd Zeeshan Ayub and Sarah Jane Dias in a political setting.

The YouTube description says that Dilli has been created and directed by Bollywood biggie Ali Abbas Zafar, who was in the news last year for working on a political web series with Saif Ali Khan titled Tandav.

Now, the only plausible explanation is that Tandav has been renamed Dilli and will premiere on Prime Video India later this year.

Khan, who burst onto the digital scene with Netflix’s highly acclaimed series Sacred Games, looks set to give another stellar performance. Speaking about Tandav last year to Bollywood Hungama, he said:

It is a show based on politics and is set on a massive scale. I don’t want to use American examples, but it’s along the lines of House Of Cards, although set within the framework of Indian politics. The plot takes into account various factions like Dalit politics and UP cops and the whole nexus between them.

Until there is further information, all we can do is keep guessing and wait for these shows to premiere. Watch Amazon’s announcement video below:
