The Politician: Trailer out for Ryan Murphy’s Netflix debut

The man behind Glee, American Horror Story and Scream Queens, Ryan Murphy’s latest series with Netflix, The Politician, is right down the corner.

The trailer has dropped for his debut series, which will premiere on September 27.

The comedy-drama will be an anthology series, similar to Murphy’s American Horror Story and American Crime Story, meaning each season will focus on a different type of political race.

The cast includes Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Lucy Boynton, Jessica Lange, and Zoey Deutch. There’ll also be guest appearances this season from celebrities like Bette Midler and Judith Light.

The show will focus on Platt’s character, Payton Hobart, as he runs for Student Body President at his high school. The show will then follow his lofty aspirations to become the President of the United States of America.

Gwyneth Paltrow will be playing the role of his mother whereas Boynton, of Bohemian Rhapsody, will star opposite Platt as his arch-enemy.

The episodes will be directed by Murphy and executively produced by Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, his long-time collaborators.

The show will be Murphy’s first of many with Netflix after he made a lucrative $300 million-dollar deal for five years with the streaming giant, leaving behind his former deal with 20th Century Fox TV.

Thus, The Politician will be executively produced by 21st Century Fox Studios as it was formed during his former deal with the company.

This series is only the beginning of Murphy’s journey with Netflix. He’s set to produce another series, Hollywood, though no release date has been announced yet. Murphy has described the show as “a love letter to the Golden Age of Tinseltown.”
