The Lovers (Large Short Films): An important issue addressed

Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films presents The Lovers is a film that discusses the perversion of an important law.

Inspired by a real-life incident, The Lovers revolves around a married couple whose life changes when the wife files a case against her husband under the Domestic Violence Act 498A.

Written & directed by Preeti Singh the short-film is produced by Vandana Mordani.

The film stars actors Anuraag Malhan, Shweta Prasad Basu and Zarina Wahab in pivotal roles.

In an interview, the filmmaker said:

“Though the Act has been made to protect the woman from dowry harassment and domestic violence, there is a silent category of men who are victims of this Act and who can’t speak about the harassment due to society’s pressure.”

She further revealed that Basu was her first choice for the role. She praised the actor for her perfect use of expressions to convey the emotions of the character.

When asked about her role in the film, Basu had this to say:

“It’s important that everyone in our society enjoy equal rights & freedom. The lovers highlights that while dowry law can help many women it can also be turned against men who are not well versed with their rights. I am happy that I became a part of this movie which deals with this critical subject in a thoughtful manner. “
