It has been directed by Arati Kadav, who also helmed the acclaimed sci-fi film Cargo, which starred Vikrant Massey and Shweta Tripathi. It came out on Netflix in September 2020.

55 km/sec revolves around the imminent threat of an asteroid hitting the earth and humanity living in constant uncertainty. The film’s title comes from the speed at which the asteroid is approaching the planet.

The cast includes Mrinal Dutt, Manya Grover, Sandeep Jain, Sankalp Joshi, Roshmin, Kajol and Tanvir Singh Virdi.

Kadav wrote on Instagram:

“It can be called a sci-fi story but for me this story or process was about finding few seconds of warmth in a world that seemed to be filled with so many uncertainties and complexities. And I truly hope, as 2020 ends, we all find ways to embrace this warmth, love and simplicity in our lives.

“Shooting remotely had it’s own challenges but the real stars of the film are truly it’s stars – the actors. I have to say a big part of workload did fall on our incredibly sporting actors, who were the only ones on the field, doubling up with their roomies as costume, production designer, makeup and camera person. Kudos to Mrinal Dutt esp. for driving his shoot so smoothly for us.”

55 km/sec was first released on Amazon Prime Video US and UK, before releasing on Disney+ Hotstar in India.
