Rian Johnson on Glass Onion – A Knives Out Mystery: “We see this world through Blanc’s eyes”

Rian Johnson, director and writer of the ‘Knives Out’ sequel ‘Glass Onion – A Knives Out Mystery’, has said that this instalment will be quite different from the first one in terms of perspective.

The first part was narrated from Marta’s (Ana de Armas) point-of-view. On the other hand, this one is from detective Benoit Blanc’s lens.

“Blanc was always outside of the sphere of our protagonist and was a little bit more of an enigma in the first movie. Whereas, in this one, Blanc gets an invitation to come to this murder mystery on this island. We’re very much meeting these people and getting into this world through his eyes,” Johnson said.

The sequel trades the mansion setting for a compound owned by a Billionaire in Greece. Johnson also revealed that the name of the film came from the 1968 Beatles song and he is a fan of the band as well.

The platform recently revealed first-look images of the upcoming film:

Glass Onion – A Knives Out Mystery is scheduled for a December 23 release. It will premiere in select theatres before streaming. The date for this is yet to be revealed.
