Ranbir Kapoor in talks for OTT debut: Reports

Following the news of Hrithik Roshan’s digital debut, there have been reports suggesting that Ranbir Kapoor might follow suit. Kapoor, who is presently working on Brahmastra, has been in talks with a digital streaming platform for a ten-part assassin drama.

According to Mid Day, a source revealed:

“The discussions began only a few weeks ago. Only if RK gives his nod, the team will begin the hunt for a director. The 10-part series has been envisioned on a grand scale and will be shot across multiple countries. The show is not likely to go on floors soon as the multi-country shoot will be hard to pull off amid the current restrictions. Also, Ranbir Kapoor has allotted his dates to his next with Shraddha Kapoor that rolls in November.”

With OTT platforms acquiring a household name, their reach into mainstream Bollywood has been on a steady increase, especially this year. Several films previously scheduled for a theatrical release have taken their projects to various digital platforms, under the unfortunate circumstances afforded by the pandemic.

However, this has also boosted the OTT medium, as more mainstream actors continue to consider opportunities that the digital space holds.

Earlier this month, Hrithik Roshan confirmed his OTT debut with the Hindi adaptation of BBC’s 2016 series, The Night Manager that starred Tom Hiddleston in the lead. The web series will be released on Disney+ Hotstar.
