Standing for “quick bites”, the streaming service is intending to provide “fresh content from today’s top talent—one quick bite at a time”, according to its website.

The aim of the service is to give its audience short episodes that are not more than 10 minutes long and tailored particularly to watch on your smartphones.

With a whopping fund of $1.5 Billion from Major Studios, Quibi has managed to attract an audience by recruiting big names like Steven Spielberg, Guillermo del Toro, and Chrissy Teigen.

The much-anticipated entertainment platform announced a star-studded initial lineup which includes Chrissy’s Court featuring Chrissy Teigen, Thanks a million with Jennifer Lopez and Survive with Sophie Turner in the lead, among others.

To create a buzz, the company reached out to a number of Hollywood celebrities.

Led by Jeffrey Katzenberg and former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, Quibi is currently available for a 90-day free trial for all users, post which the Indian users will be charged Rs. 669 per month.

According to Tom Conrad, Chief Product Officer, the intention of the company is to provide a “personal service”, which means that unlike Netflix and Prime Video, the Quibi accounts are meant for individuals and are not to be shared.

The subscribers will have the option to download all episodes for offline viewing.

Earlier this year Whitman released a statement in which she said:

Today we are living through another revolution in entertainment, this time on our mobile phones… Innovations in mobile technology and network capability mean that we now have billions of users watching billions of hours of content everyday on their mobile phones.

However, with the recent launch of Disney+Hotstar in India, Quibi may have to face some tough competition.
