Planet Marathi: All you need to know about first-ever Marathi OTT platform

Planet Marathi, the first Marathi OTT platform in India will exclusively cater to its Marathi audience. It will serve a host of fiction and non-fiction entertainment like films, theatrical productions, web series, reality shows, music, food recipes, fitness and well-being and educational programmes for kids.

Conceptualised by filmmaker and producer Akshay Bardapurkar, actor Pushkar Shrotri and Music composer Aditya Oak, Planet Marathi is scheduled to launch in December 2020.

With a general proliferation of digital entertainment platforms, many regional streaming platforms have come up especially serving the language-specific audience with language-specific content. This has also led to an increase in the quality of regional content and has generated business.

After Bengali Hoichoi, Aha for Telugu and Sun Nxt catering to Tamil, Telegu, Malayalam and Kannada, Planet Marathi aims at throwing light on the Marathi space of filmmakers, directors, producers and content creators.

Breathing life into Planet Marathi was based on the idea of creating a separate archive of only Marathi content. According to the makers, Marathi entertainment lacks the edge in box offices and therefore, creating an overall environment in which the language thrives with its content is paramount to sustain the strong libraries of Marathi art and entertainment.

With already 50 thousand hours of streaming content, Planet Marathi will be a plan-based subscription platform, available to both android and iOS devices. Although the makers haven’t decided on the subscription plans as of yet, there are plans of doubling the quantity of streaming content by the end of this year.
