Pitta Kathalu on Netflix: Streamer’s first Telugu original

Netflix has released the teaser for its first Telugu original titled, ‘Pitta Kathalu’. It stars Amala Paul, Ashwin Kakamanu, Eesha Rebba, Jagapati Babu, Lakshmi Manchu, Saanve Megghana, Sanjith Hegde, Shruti Haasan, and others. The original will premiere on February 19. Furthermore, the film is an anthology that will be made in four parts.

The film will be based on the stories of four prominently strong and different women played by Eesha Rebba, Lakshmi Manchu, Amala Paul, and Shruti Haasan. It is directed by Tharun Bhascker, BV Nandini Reddy, Nag Ashwin, and Sankalp Reddy and produced by RSVP Movies and Flying Unicorn Entertainment.

Speaking about the project, director Tharun Bhascker said:

“Pitta Kathalu is a labour of love with every story in the anthology showcasing a beautiful landscape of the country and presenting women-led stories that will touch a chord with the audience. Working with other extremely talented directors and incredible actors was an opportunity to cherish. It is time for regional Indian content to shine on the global stage.”

Sharing his views on connecting the story with people through storytelling, director Nag Ashwin said:

“I hope Pitta Kathalu, the four different stories of this anthology, the four unique worlds the directors have created will connect with people, not just in the Telugu speaking states but across the world.”

On the collaboration with the platform BV Nandini Reddy added:

“Collaborating with Netflix and the accomplished cast of Pitta Kathulu has been a very rewarding experience. Working with gifted directors who seek to travel on newer paths of storytelling has helped us bring forth authentic human stories and a differentiated take on relationships. We hope these stories will have a universal impact with the massive reach that Netflix provides.”

As deciphered from the official synopsis of the film, four different women, in pursuit of love, face unexpected betrayals. But, one thing that connects all four of them to each other is that they all want to dismantle the patriarchy.
