Peaky Blinders season 5 premiere date on Netflix announced

By order of the Peaky Blinders, season 5 of the popular show will premiere on Netflix for global audiences on October 4.

The show will, however, return for season 5 in the United Kingdom on August 25, BBC One. Peaky Blinders has already had a special screening of season 5 at Birmingham – the town where the show is based – as well as a special preview at the British Film Institute in London.

According to the BBC’s official synopsis, series five of Steven Knight’s crime family saga will revolve around the world being thrown into turmoil by the financial crash of 1929. “Opportunity and misfortune are everywhere. When MP Tommy Shelby is approached by a charismatic politician with a bold vision for Britain, he realises that his response will affect not just his family’s future but that of the entire nation.”

Fans in Britain should be pleased to know that it has been announced the Peaky Blinders series five will kick off on BBC One over two nights, with the season premiere being followed by the second episode the very next day.

Peaky Blinders creator and writer Steven Knight declared at the London premiere: “Series five, I think, is the best so far. There’s lots of shocks, lots of surprises.”

There will also be a host of new faces who will be joining the cast for the new series and one of them will be Sam Claflin – a star in Hunger Games and the upcoming Charlie’s Angels – who will be playing an important role as fascist politician Sir Oswald Mosley. Other new faces include Emmett J Scanlan, Anya Taylor-Joy, Brian Gleeson among a few others.

Series 5, however, will not mark an end for the much-anticipated series. There will be a sixth and seventh series –  as confirmed by writer Steven Knight after the programme won a BAFTA for Best Drama Series.

The BBC did not hold back on campaigns to promote the latest season and will also hold the first ever official Peaky Blinders Festival at Digbeth, Birmingham, UK on September 14 and 15. The festival will be an extravaganza spread across two days and nights of live music, theatre, experiences, poetry, etc.
