Officially described as a Black Comedy Thriller, Parasite is about a poor family of four members. They all plot to infiltrate a wealthy household as unrelated and skilled individuals. As they succeed in doing so, things for them don’t necessarily go to plan thereafter.

The film was met with immense critical acclaim and grossed over $266 million across all markets against a budget of $11 million and became the highest grossing South Korean film.

Parasite was much loved for its depiction of important themes like social and wealth inequality along with caste conflict. Bong’s direction was also lauded.

It is not just numbers at the box office that validate the film’s success but also the numerous awards it has won. Parasite received four awards at the 92nd edition of the Oscars this year: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film.

Furthermore, it won a BAFTA for Best Film Not in the English Language and also a Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
