‘Onmyoji’ anime adaptation slated for 2023 Netflix release

Netflix has announced ‘Onmyoji’, an anime adaptation of the historical fantasy short stories and novel series by Baku Yumemakura of the same name. It will stream in 2023.

Concept art for the anime was also revealed by the streaming service:

Onmyoji is based on a fictional version of the Heian period in Japan and follows Abe no Seimei, a real Onmyoji during the time.

Soubi Yamamoto is the director, while Natsu Hashimoto and Yuiko Kato are the writers. The producer of the anime is Marvy Jack.

Onmyoji first began publishing back in 1986 as short stories. Yumemakura then wrote three novels from 2000-2008.

It has spawned a number of adaptations, including two films and a live-action TV drama. This will be the first anime adaptation of the novels.
