Disney+ announces release date for ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’

With a plotline based on the story after ‘Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith’, the series ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ traces the downfall of Darth Vader, as experienced by Kenobi.

Disney+ is set to release ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’, a limited original series on 25th May 2022 which is also the 45th anniversary of the release of the first-ever Star Wars film.

The official synopsis reads: “The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of ‘Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith’ where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat: the corruption and downfall of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.”

Along with Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, the cast will comprise some other old faces like Moses Ingram and Joel Edgerton. Actors Indira Verma and Kumail Nanjiani are also set to appear in the series.

The project was originally to be a spin-off film written by Hossein Amini and directed by Stephen Daldry, but it was later reworked as a limited series by Amini.

The series will be directed by Disney veteran Deborah Chow, who has previously directed episodes of ‘Jessica Jones’.
