Obamas and Netflix announce array of projects

Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company Higher Ground Productions has announced six new upcoming ventures for the streaming platform Netflix.

The array of projects will encompass ventures ranging across genres and themes. 

The Obamas stated, “From science fiction to the beauty of our natural world to the relationships that define us, Higher Ground continues to strive for fresh perspectives, compelling characters, and a healthy dose of inspiration.” 

The announced projects also include a movie adaptation of the novel, ‘Exit West’, written by a British-Pakistani novelist Mohsin Hamid. The fiction revolves around a couple who discovers a mystic door which would enable them to switch places amidst the global refugee crisis. 

Another science-fiction movie, titled ‘Satellites’ is also underway for the streaming platform. It will also be produced by the production banner, ‘T Street’, headed by Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman. 

Another story will capture the life of Indian-Nepalese Tenzing Norgay who climbed the Mount Everest along with Sir Edmund Hillary.

The production house has also announced a feature film riveting around a woman on her wedding day and the approaching storm.

Simultaneously, it is also working on two web series, one a thriller and the other one will be a documentary. The thriller will be based on the young adult novel by Angeline Boulley and the documentary will revolve around national parks. 

America’s ex-president and the first lady signed a multi-year deal with Netflix in 2018. The newly announced projects will be released over the span of a few years.
