NX Netflix reveals exciting new anime releases at LA Expo

In efforts to widen their anime slate, Netflix has announced a lineup of new releases of animation series at the Anime Expo held in Los Angeles, for the third consecutive year.

The Expo – with IGN editor Laura Prudom as the moderator – had a creators’ panel which was comprised of LeSean Thomas (Cannon BustersThe Boondocks), Alvaro Rodriguez (Seis ManosMacheteFrom Dusk Till Dawn: The Series), Jay Oliva (Trese, The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest HeroesThe Flash) and Shuzo Shiota (LeviusTransformers PrimeTransformers: Robots in DisguiseLost in Oz).

There were a few big reveals that were announced: the premiere date for LeSean Thomas’ Cannon Busters next month, the voice stars set for VIZ Media & Powerhouse Animation’s Seis Manos, new images for Polygon Pictures’ Levius and the scoop on Filipino comic-book adaptation Trese from creator/director Oliva.

The announcement for Cannon Busters’ release date was made on NX’s Twitter by the creator, LeSean Thomas:

One of the highly anticipated releases, Cannon Busters follows the adventures and exploits of S.A.M, a high-end friendship droid who’s joined by a quirky, discarded maintenance robot and a brash, deadly fugitive. Together, the unlikely trio embarks on an unforgettable journey in a fantastic and dangerous world in search of S.A.M’s best friend, the heir to a kingdom under siege.

Another major announcement was the voice cast of Seis Manos which was, again, made on Twitter as well. The following were announced as the members of the cast: Aislinn Derbez as Isabela; Mike Colter as Brister; Jonny Cruz as Jesus ; Angelica Vale as Garcia; Vic Chao as Chiu and Danny Trejo as El Balde.

Seis Manos centers on three orphaned martial arts warriors living in 1970s Mexico, who join forces with a DEA agent and a Mexican Federale to battle for justice after their beloved mentor is murdered on the streets of their tiny border town. It is slated to launch in Fall 2019. There were also new images that were released at the Expo from upcoming anime series Levius, created by world renowned anime producers Polygon Pictures.

In another reveal of anime releases was Trese which is set in Manila where the mythical creatures of Philippine folklore live in hiding amongst humans, Alexandra Trese finds herself going head to head with a criminal underworld comprised of malevolent supernatural beings. This anime series is based on the Philippine graphic novel by the same name, created by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldissimo. It is executively produced and directed by Jay Oliva (Wonder WomanThe Legend of Korra).
