Netflix’s ‘JIVA!’ relays dance dreams from Durban

Netflix released the official teaser for its upcoming South African series, ‘JIVA!’, that is set to release on the streamer on June 24.

This African original series is set to be Netflix’s all-African production from script to screen, along with the cast and crew too.

The drama series revolves around the story of Ntombi, a gifted street dancer who, despite the rigours of a dead-end job, family responsibilities, and troubled love life, realizes that her dancing movements may be her ticket out of her Durban working-class neighbourhood.

‘JIVA!’ will show how Ntombi must face her anxieties, defeat her foes, and sort out her family’s mess so as to pursue her dancing dreams.

The web series is created and produced by Busisiwe Ntintili of The Ntintili Factory. Scottnes L. Smith, Mandla Dube, and Mmambatho Montsho, an award-winning director, is part of series’ directorial crew.

As choreographers for the series, Bontle Modiselle, a dancer, actor, and radio personality, and Tom London, the creator of South Africa’s premier dance troop Soweto’s Finest, join the team.

‘JIVA!’ will be produced by Blue Ice Africa, a Cape Town-based production company, with Executive Producers Busisiwe Ntintili, Adam Friedlander, and Tebogo Maila.
