Netflix’s ‘Fear Street Part One: 1994’ brings 90s slasher vibe to life

Netflix has released the official trailer for the first chapter of its upcoming horror trilogy ‘Fear Street Part One: 1994. It is set to released on July 2, bringing the 90s slasher killer vibes back to screens.

Based on renowned horror writer R.L. Stine’s namesake book series ‘Fear Street’, the trilogy stars Kiana Madeira (Deena), Olivia Scott Welch (Samantha), and Benjamin Flores Jr. (Josh).

The movie series is set in the haunted town of Shadyside, Ohio, in 1994, where a teen and her friends face a serial killer possessed by an ancient evil witch; an occurrence that has plagued the city of Shadyside for generations.

Directed by Leigh Janiak and script co-written by Phil Graziadei and Janiak, the trilogy is set to be more “bloodier” and “scarier” than ‘Goosebumps’. As revealed by Stine himself, the Netflix adaption of the novel will appeal to a mature audience and is R-rated, as opposed to its original work written for teenagers.

The trailer reveals the leads, Madeira and Welsh, as lesbian teenagers trying to sail their rocky relationship while targeted by a serial killer who haunts their small town. The principle photography took place in Atlanta and East Point, Georgia, capturing the feel and essence of the gruesome horror flick.

The first instalment of the ‘Fear Street’ trilogy will be followed by ‘Part Two: 1978’ and ‘Part Three: 1666’, which are scheduled for release on July 9 and 16, i.e., the Fridays of the month.
