Netflix spin-off on Wednesday Addams under production

Tim Burton is all set to make his TV directorial debut with an Addams Family spin-off series based on Wednesday Addams. The live-action series, titled ‘Wednesday’, has been picked up by Netflix.

A coming-of-age comedy, ‘Wednesday’ will follow the titular character’s years as a student at Nevermore Academy, where she tries to master her developing psychic abilities and solve a murder mystery.

She also tries to find answers to a supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents, Gomez and Morticia, all those years ago as she deals with her own complicated relationships.

Teddy Biaselli, Netflix’s Director of Original Series described the eight-episode series as a “sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery”.

It has been written by ‘Smallville’ creators Al Gough and Miles Millar. They will also serve as showrunners and executive producers, along with Burton.

‘The Addams Family’ is a fictional, spooky household created by cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938 for The New Yorker magazine. It includes Gomez and Morticia Addams, their children Wednesday and Pugsley, Uncle Fester, Grandmama and their butler Lurch.

The family has been the subject of various small and big screen adaptations over the years.
