Netflix to premiere Vir Das’ lockdown comedy special ‘Outside In’

The streaming giant has acquired Vir Das’ latest comedy special titled, “Vir Das: Outside In – The Lockdown Special”, which will premiere on the platform on December 16.

The 50 minute special is an effort for charity and is compiled from 30 virtual shows Das did during lockdown. According to the official description:

“Stage banter takes on a different — deeper — meaning as the comedian performs online shows to homebound viewers worldwide from his Mumbai residence.”

The show had earlier been released by the comedian on his website in August, but is now all set to reach the global audience via Netflix.

Talking about the special, Das said:

“I never planned to put another comedy special out this year. But since when does 2020 care about our plans? We started 2020 together on Netflix, let’s end this crazy year together too. The charity special was conceived and executed as an experiment. The response was humbling and overwhelming.

“The proceeds we raised were a testament to the fact that there’s enough kindness in the world for survival. With the show now releasing worldwide, I hope that more and more people take in the learnings of this lockdown.”

This will Das’ fourth collaboration with the OTT giant after Abroad Understanding, Losing It, and Vir Das: For India.

On his work with Netflix, the comic said:

“I am so happy that Netflix will be reaching this show to people in more than 200 countries. I am a Netflix guy and they loved the content, which is so reassuring for me as a content creator. Their support has always been there and that has truly given me the confidence to go out there and do better work.”
