Netflix celebrates 20 years of Lagaan with YouTube special

Netflix announces the reunion of the Indian film Lagaan: Once Upon A Time In India as it completed 20 years on June 15, 2021, since its release. The reunion is titled Chale Chalo Lagaan – Once Upon An Impossible Dream.

Ashutosh Gowariker’s Lagaan, an extraordinary tale of team spirit and determinism, holds a remarkable place in the history of Indian Cinema. It was one of the three films to be nominated in the 74th Academy Awards, under the Best Foreign Language Film category.

As the movie completes two decades, lead actor Aamir Khan and Gawarikar will come along for this Netflix’s initiative to celebrate the iconic moment on Netflix’s YouTube Channel.

Sharing the joy on this occasion, Gowariker said:

“My ultimate dream was to create something which will linger in the audience’s mind. That it would be appreciated 20 years down the line is something that is unimaginable. It is overwhelming for me as well as the entire team of the film that this dream became a reality.”

Talking about the making and the tremendous success of the film, Khan said:

“We broke our backs while making Lagaan, but our hearts were full of joy. Lagaan has showered us all with so much love. I am so grateful to all my fellow travellers on this magical journey.

“It is also so wonderful to see that the journey of Lagaan continues, and I am really looking forward to reconnecting with the Lagaan gang thanks to this initiative by Netflix. RE BHAIYYA CHHUTEY LAGAAN!!!”

The date for the reunion is expected to be announced soon. Lagaan is currently streaming on Netflix in more than 190 countries.
