Netflix’s ‘The Chair’ stars Sandra Oh in dark comedy setting

Netflix’s latest addition, ‘The Chair,’ is a six-episode dark comedy series about elite academia set to hit the screens on August 20. The streamer has released an official trailer for the same.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’s upcoming creation follows “Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim (Sandra Oh) as she navigates her new role as the Chair of the English department at prestigious Pembroke University. Ji-Yoon is faced with a unique set of challenges as the first woman to chair the department, and as one of the few staff members of color at the university.”

Coming from showrunner, writer, and executive producer Amanda Peet, the series also stars Jay Duplass, Holland Taylor, Bob Balaban, Nana Mensah, David Morse, and Everly Carganilla.

The trailer gives a sneak peek at the impactful statements like “I feel like someone handed me a ticking time bomb because they wanted to make sure a woman was holding it when it explodes.”

With a scandal involving her love interest, professor Bill Dobson (Jay Duplass), looming over the premise and navigating her professional crisis while fulfilling her motherly role, the trailer indeed sets the tone for the series.
