Netflix gets Taika Waititi on board for its Roald Dahl animated event series

Netflix is all set to produce original animated event series based on the stories by Roald Dahl, helmed by Taika Waititi.

Out of the two web series, one is based on the characters of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The other series will be based on Oompa-Loompas, the creatures that featured in Dahl’s stories.

The characters of these stories will essentially be the same as they were in the books, but the event series will reimagine their stories and give them a world beyond Dahl’s books.

Taika Waititi will write, direct, and executive produce the two original animated series for Netflix. He is a renowned writer, director, and actor; he has won an Academy Award for Jojo Rabbit’s screenplay.

While speaking about Waititi’s involvement in this project, Netflix Vice President of Original Animation Melissa Cobb stated:

If Dahl had created a character of a filmmaker to adapt his work, I’m pretty sure he would have created Taika

These two web series are the first of Netflix and The Roald Dahl Story Company’s partnership. Netflix plans to take up other projects based on Dahl’s stories including Matilda, The BFG, The Twits, and others to create content for families around the globe.
