Netflix expands international anime slate with ‘Trese’

‘Trese’ marks an addition to Netflix’s slate of original international anime and is set to stream on the platform from June 11.

The anime is based on an award-winning Filipino komik (term for comics in the Philippines), which is created by writer Budjette Tan and artist Kajo Baldisimo.

The narrative follows Alexandra Trese, who is a detective by profession. She is on a mission to investigate crimes caused by supernatural beings to save humanity. The anime is a take on the Philippines’ rich history of supernatural folklore

The official description of the anime reads:

“When it comes to the supernatural, the cops have Alexandra Trese on speed dial. Set in Manila and based on the award-winning Filipino comic, TRESE brings horror folklore like you’ve never heard before”.

The anime will feature voices of notable actors such as Dante Basco, Darren Criss, Nicole Scherzinger, Manny Jacinto, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Jon Jon Briones along with Shay Mitchell, who plays the titular character in the English dub

Originally in Filipino, the anime series is available with English dub.
