Netflix’s O2 starts production with Melanie Laurent

Netflix has begun production for its upcoming survival thriller O2 which will star 6 Underground star Melanie Laurent. The French movie will be directed by Alexandre Aja – the man behind Piranha 3D, The Hills Have Eyes and High Tension.

O2 revolves around the story of a young woman who wakes up in a medical cryo unit which is no larger than a coffin, with no memory of how she ended up there or who she is. With her race against time due to lack of oxygen, she tries to find a way out by building her memory.

The film will be based on Christie LeBlanc’s original script that was listed on The Black List.

O2 will mark Aja’s return to French-language film after a whopping gap of 15 years.

The movie will be produced by Brahim Chioua, Vincent Maraval and Noemie Devide from Getaway Films.

Besides appearing in theatrical hits like Now You See Me and Inglorious Basterds, Laurent was last seen in Netflix’s Ryan Reynolds starrer 6 Underground in the web space:

Prior to Laurent, Anne Hathaway was considered for her role in O2.
