Netflix drama ‘Monster’ outlines search for true identity

Based on the award-winning novel written by Walter Dean Myers, ‘Monster’ is a 2018 crime-drama film. The movie is set to release on Netflix on May 7, 2021.

Previously known as ‘All Rise’, ‘Monster’ was premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 22, 2018. Netflix acquired the distribution rights of the movie in November 2020.

The legal drama revolves around an African-American teen, Steve Harmon, who studies at an elite film school. His life takes a drastic turn when he gets charged with felony murder.

The subsequent events follow his struggle to fight for his honour and integrity against a harsh and potentially racist judicial system. Will he be able to discover his real self when he faces prison?

Directed by Anthony Mandler, the cast of ‘Monster’ includes Kelvin Harrison Jr., Jennifer Hudson, Jeffrey Wright, Jennifer Ehle and Tim Blake Nelson. The screenplay is written by Radha Blank, Cole Wiley and Janece Shaffer.
