Netflix closing in on Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt’s superhero film

Netflix is in talks to acquire the superhero film ‘Ball and Chain’, starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, as per The Hollywood Reporter. The duo will be reuniting after Disney’s The Jungle Cruise.

The new film comes from ‘The Big Sick’ co-writer Emily V. Gordon. It is being described as the story of a couple, Mr. And Mrs. Smith, struggling with their marriage. They acquire superpowers but there’s a catch, the powers only work when they’re together.

The title was being chased by many prominent studios, but Netflix seems to be the closest to a deal.

The Jungle Cruise was slated for theatrical release in July, however, the lockdown has forced it to be delayed till 2021.

Johnson is also set to feature in Netflix’s most ambitious title yet: ‘Red Notice’, made at a budget of over $130 million. The action-comedy, also starring Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds, was hit by the lockdown as well, leading to halt in production.
